Responsibilities

Follow the GM System Safety Process, aligned with ISO 26262, to conduct functional safety work across ADAS longitudinal features
Drive system safety analysis, hazard identification, and risk mitigation activities using both qualitative and quantitative methods
Decompose complex, top‑level system functions to perform hazard analysis and derive clear, testable safety requirements
Develop, own, and maintain system safety plans and deliverables aligned to program milestones and launch timelines
Partner closely with cross‑functional teams (systems, software, hardware, validation, and program leadership) to develop and deploy a safety strategy that balances feature availability and performance
Support definition of verification and validation plans that assess end‑to‑end implementation of safety requirements
Lead and support resolution of safety issues identified during bench testing, vehicle integration, and on‑road development
Coach and support cross‑functional teams on safety‑critical systems, processes, and best practices, consulting senior system safety engineers as needed

Required

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline
5+ years of engineering experience in functional safety related to systems engineering, software engineering, product development, or other relevant fields
Demonstrated ability to understand, analyze, and reason about complex, multi‑disciplinary technical systems
Working knowledge of semiconductors and SoC (System on Chip) architectures within safety‑critical systems
Strong technical leadership skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across highly cross‑functional teams
Strong communication and project execution skills, with the ability to align technical work to program milestones
Comfort operating in ambiguous problem spaces and applying structured problem‑solving approaches
Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment with colleagues across local and global teams
Willingness and ability to travel as needed (up to 5–10%)

Preferred

Experience developing safety cases for ADAS or automated driving features
Hands‑on experience applying ISO 26262, SOTIF, or related safety standards in production programs
Familiarity with FMVSS 127, NCAP, or other regulatory and consumer safety requirements
Experience performing HARA, FMEA, FTA, or other formal safety analysis techniques
Prior involvement in vehicle integration, validation, or road testing of safety‑critical systems
Experience working with embedded software, perception, controls, or vehicle dynamics teams
Ability to mentor others and help evolve system safety processes and best practices within a large, matrixed organization
