They are seeking a Drainage Engineer Intern to assist with drainage and stormwater design projects, collaborate with experienced engineers, and gain hands-on experience in transportation engineering.

Responsibilities
Work under the direction and guidance of a Senior Engineer on drainage and stormwater design for highway and roadway projects
Collaborate with other KCA associates on hydrology and hydraulics tasks
Provide technical support for drainage engineering projects, including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis
Gain hands‑on experience in sizing culverts and storm drain systems, designing retention and detention ponds, performing bridge hydraulics evaluations, and using hydrologic/hydraulic modeling tools
Assist with the preparation of technical studies, engineering reports, and construction plan components
Support the design and modeling of storm sewer systems, culverts, and stormwater management facilities while applying DOT criteria, FEMA floodplain considerations, and local agency regulations
Contribute to plan production activities, including developing plan/profile sheets, reviewing field data, and preparing calculations and technical documentation
Build a strong understanding of the relationship between water management and transportation infrastructure

Required
Able to analyze and interpret data
Able to meet time sensitive deadlines
Able to carry out multiple tasks simultaneously
Proficient with Microsoft Office software
Effective verbal communication skills
Effective organizational skills to maintain deliverables, analytical results, and field notes in project files
Effective writing skills to assist with report writing, proposal preparation, and engineering/construction cost estimates
Able to work effectively in group settings or as an individual
Ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion
Preferred
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Water Resources and Hydraulics being preferred
