Estimator
Responsibilities
Understand proposal requirements and completes the pursuit needs for the proposal (e.g. format, level of detail)
Takes ownership of an entire (smaller) estimate or a component of a larger estimate
Completes full quantity take-off of all labor, equipment, and materials for small-to-medium scopes
Performs quantity, material, and labor take-off from drawings, specifications, and related documents
Reviews quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or chief estimator
Applies material unit prices or adds material allowances to the estimate
Participates with bid document control (e.g., includes addenda in set of working drawings, includes RFIs, distributes information to estimating team; archives information / recaps and files on local server)
Documents all information relating to the estimate and archives and organizes the information to transfer to the project team upon successful award
On a fixed-price job, ensures that bid validity, escalation, and extra work terms meet project requirements for small scopes
Participates in updating and maintenance of trade contractor database information
Solicits competitive pricing from trade contractors and suppliers for pursuit support
Reads all bid documents for small-to-medium jobs pertaining to their discipline
Participates in developing CAD drawings, work plans, crane pick plans, etc
Generates RFIs for review with lead estimator after reviewing specifications and drawings
Other duties as required
Qualification
Required
Construction knowledge; understands specifications, materials, and methods and procedures gained through site visits or on-site experience
Proficient in principles of mathematics
Understands and uses take-off systems
Executes key principles in bid preparation, including quantity take-off procedures, trade contractor procurement, interdepartmental functions, pricing, and bid-closing procedures
Exposure to general expense philosophy and pricing
Exposure to contract terms; understands foundation of compensation model
Ability to read isometric, as-built, and engineering drawings
Familiar with different delivery methods: hard bid, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), unit price, DesignBuild, target prices, and cost reimbursable
Resourceful and self-motivated with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
Working knowledge of CAD software
Preferred
Experience in Millwork and Finish Carpentry, and/or Metal Fabrication highly desired, but not required
