Responsibilities
Review, analyze, and validate technical specifications written by ABAP developers for custom programs in SAP ECC and S/4HANA systems
Reverse-engineer custom Z-tables and ABAP logic across SAP modules including FI, MM, SD, HR, and others
Understand and interpret business logic, data dependencies, and transformation rules embedded in ABAP programs
Collaborate closely with functional consultants, business stakeholders, and data engineers to ensure accuracy and completeness of specifications
Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including:
Data extraction logic
Field-level source-to-target mappings
Business rule interpretation
Source-to-target data lineage
Provide clarifications and guidance so that data engineering teams can confidently design and develop ETL pipelines for data lake ingestion
Ensure technical designs follow SAP best practices, performance standards, and scalability requirements
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
Extensive hands-on experience in Classical ABAP and Object-Oriented ABAP development
Strong expertise in ALV reporting (Classical and OO)
Proven experience with BDC, BAPI, RFC, and SAP integration techniques
Hands-on development experience with SmartForms and Adobe Forms
In-depth knowledge of User Exits, Customer Exits, BADIs, and enhancement frameworks
Strong experience with Function Modules, modularization techniques, and macros
Solid experience reviewing and validating technical designs involving: CDS Views (Basic, Composite, and Consumption), AMDP (ABAP Managed Database Procedures), OData services and Fiori integration, ABAP RESTful Programming Model (RAP), CDS annotations, Business Object Processing Framework (BOPF)
Strong experience in Z-table data extraction, including complex joins, filters, and delta logic
Proven ability to perform performance tuning of SELECT statements and data-intensive programs
Proficient in Open SQL and Native SQL
Hands-on experience creating and managing Data Dictionary objects (Z-tables, views, domains, data elements)
Knowledge of handling clustered and pooled tables in legacy ECC systems
Proven ability to create clear, structured, and reusable technical documentation
Strong understanding of source-to-target mappings, data lineage, and transformation logic
Ability to translate complex ABAP logic into documentation consumable by non-SAP data engineering teams
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven client-facing experience
Demonstrated experience working effectively in cross-functional teams
Ability to act as a trusted SAP ABAP SME, providing technical guidance and leadership
High attention to detail with a strong focus on data accuracy, quality, and consistency
