Traffic Engineer Intern

Responsibilities

Work under the direction and guidance of the Traffic Department Manager and Project Managers
Collaborate with other KCA associates on traffic and transportation engineering tasks
Provide technical support related to traffic analysis, traffic operations, and traffic design
Assist with data collection and analysis, development of traffic impact studies, and preparation of capacity modeling and simulation efforts
Support the planning and design of traffic elements such as signalization, lighting, ITS, signing, and pavement marking
Contribute to projects involving new roadways, roadway improvements, intersections, interchanges, signal timing optimization, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and work zone traffic control plans
Assist with the development of project deliverables, including engineering documentation, graphics, and design exhibits
Gain exposure to traffic modeling tools, traffic simulation techniques, and real‑world traffic operations for state and local agency projects

Required

Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering
Able to analyze and interpret data
Able to meet time sensitive deadlines
Able to carry out multiple tasks simultaneously
Proficient with Microsoft Office software
Effective verbal communication skills
Effective organizational skills to maintain deliverables, analytical results, and field notes in project files
Effective writing skills to assist with report writing, proposal preparation, and engineering/construction cost estimates
Able to work effectively in group settings or as an individual
Ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion
