Senior Platform Engineer
Inkwell is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to lead infrastructure initiatives and contribute to their scalable ecosystem on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This hands-on role involves ownership of platform systems, cloud architecture, and ensuring the quality and reliability of Kubernetes platforms.
Computer Software
Responsibilities
Own and ship platform components: Design, implement, test, and operate multi-environment Kubernetes platforms (primarily GKE) with accountability for quality and reliability
Define organizational standards: Establish best practices for containerized workloads, image security, and lifecycle management
Contribute to system architecture: Help define and evolve service boundaries, networking, IAM hierarchies, and deployment patterns to improve modularity and scalability
Lead the IaC strategy: Develop modular Terraform frameworks that enforce environment isolation and security across the organization
Optimize global delivery: Engineer and maintain CI/CD frameworks (GitHub Actions) to ensure fast, reliable, and secure delivery of services
Drive the automation roadmap: Eliminate manual intervention by automating environment provisioning and operational workflows
Modernize deployment strategies: Implement blue/green and canary strategies to maximize velocity and reduce organizational risk
Drive platform quality: Establish observability standards (Prometheus, Grafana, Cloud Logging) and champion SLOs and error budgets
Mandate security best practices: Oversee Workload Identity, advanced secrets management, and zero-trust security boundaries
Lead incident response: Direct postmortem processes, transforming technical failures into structural improvements
Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with product and engineering partners to translate business needs into clear technical plans
Mentor and grow the team: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, scaling the team's capabilities
Reduce operational risk: Standardize documentation and best practices to reduce single points of failure and ensure institutional knowledge is preserved
Qualification
Required
6+ years of professional software/platform engineering experience, operating at a senior level with a proven track record of technical leadership
Expert-level proficiency in Kubernetes (GKE preferred) and container-based application design
Extensive experience architecting production infrastructure via Terraform
Deep expertise in GCP, specifically IAM governance, VPC networking, and high-scale compute (GKE, Cloud Run)
High ownership and judgment: Able to independently drive work forward, communicate clearly, and make sound technical decisions with minimal oversight
Strong engineering fundamentals: Clean code, testing discipline, and observability
Preferred
Experience managing multi-cluster or multi-region global architectures
Experience with service meshes (Istio, ambient mesh) and GitOps tools (Argo CD, Flux)
Proficiency with advanced observability stacks (Thanos, Loki, OpenTelemetry)
Experience with security automation (image scanning, policy-as-code)
