Senior Developer Advocate (Developer Evangelist)
Typesense is an open source, in-memory search engine that developers use to build delightful search experiences. The Senior Developer Advocate will engage with existing users and the broader developer community, focusing on building awareness and adoption through technical engagement.
Responsibilities
Represent Typesense at developer conferences, meetups, hackathons, and community events, which will involve regular domestic and international travel
Organize in-person user groups and developer meetups centered around Typesense, in cities around the world, as opportunities arise
Turn in-person conversations into technical blog posts, talks, tutorials, and guides
Build demo applications, example integrations, and sample projects that showcase Typesense in real-world scenarios
Engage with developers in community channels and help answer technical questions
Design, improve, and occasionally maintain lightweight SDKs, client libraries, and developer tooling as needed
Dogfood new features and provide feedback to the product engineering team, to ensure our developer experience remains batteries-included as we scale
Gather insights from the field and feed them back into product and engineering discussions
Help improve our documentation to make it more accessible to developers
Own and manage Typesense’s developer-facing social media presence, using technically grounded content from events, demos, and community conversations to drive awareness and engagement
Help establish best practices and long-term direction for Developer Advocacy and Evangelism at Typesense
Qualification
Required
A publicly accessible portfolio of technical talks, blog posts, videos, or other technical content you've produced in the past
Public technical presence through social media, open source contributions, or community engagement is a strong bonus
A sense for developer culture and humor
Strong conversational skills, especially in unscripted technical discussions with developers
At least 3-4 years of experience building and shipping production-grade web applications using modern technologies
Experience with at least one frontend library or framework like React, Vue, Angular, Next, Nuxt, etc
Experience with at least one backend web framework (Ruby on Rails, Laravel, Django) or backend language/runtime (Go, Node.js, etc)
Experience with Search or Information Retrieval Systems (Elasticsearch, Algolia, Solr, Lucene, etc) is a big plus, but not required
Comfortable writing production-quality code for demos, examples, and integrations
Comfortable using modern AI-assisted and agentic coding tools as part of day-to-day workflows
Ability to explain complex technical ideas clearly to other developers
Experience in public speaking, workshops, or technical presentations
Strong technical writing skills
Comfortable creating technical video content (recorded talks, demos, walkthroughs)
Comfortable working independently and shaping an evolving function
Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship
Must be able to travel internationally for work and obtain any required travel documents independently
