Head of PV and Substation Engineering

Responsibilities

Extensive customer, EPC, and OEM interaction. Act as a technical executive interfacing with utilities, IPPs, EPCs, and NRTLs translating complex requirements into executable designs and resolving field issues across large portfolios
Hands-on experience with protection, controls, and substation equipment
Experience directly worked with switchgear, MV transformers, protection relays, metering, grounding/VSGR systems, and full-plant coordination studies—directly relevant to Siemens’ Grid Automation portfolio
Architected standardized BESS and hybrid (PV+BESS) products
Define product architectures, created technical standards, and established clear interfaces with EPCs, PCS OEMs, EMS vendors, and battery OEMs
Deep background in utility interconnection & grid-code compliance
Drive designs compliant with UL9540/1973/1741, NFPA855, NEC/IFC/IBC, plus interconnection requirements (IEEE 1547, CA Rule 21, ERCOT, ISO/utility-specific specs)
Experience in grid automation & digital substations
Hands-on experience with IEC 61850, protection coordination, SCADA point modeling, relays, and substation integration, bridging the gap between DER systems and utility protection/control environments
End-to-end systems integration
Lead the architecture and integration across PCS, BMS, EMS/PPC, SCADA, networking, protection, and thermal/fire safety for utility-scale BESS and hybrid PV+Storage plants, ensuring full-plant operability and grid compliance
Lead the Systems Engineering cross-functional (AE, OE, customer support engineering) hardware, firmware, and software teams, delivering repeatable platforms, and improving time-to-market and product quality
Taking complete responsibility of engineering documentation
From requirements specs, architecture docs, coordination studies, compliance packages, testing protocols, to NRTL justifications (UL9540, fuse coordination, HV/LV safety) delivering audit-ready, regulator-ready outputs
Drive scalable skidded solutions for PV, data centers that accelerate deployment, reduce complexity, and deliver reliable performance aligned with Siemens standards of quality and productivity

Required

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of 15 years of experience in engineered solutions development with expertise in related products and power systems
Proven experience managing a team of electrical engineers, designers & drafter (preference given to experience in the MV power distribution and controls industry)
Professional Engineering license
Proven experience working with power distribution switchgear and systems
Understanding of power systems with protection, networking, controls, and automation applications
Experience working in a manufacturing environment for highly customized and engineered products
Ability to analyze customers' technical specifications regarding the application of power distribution equipment and apply appropriate product solutions to meet the customers' expectations in cost-effective and timely manner
Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL and NEMA standards for MV Switchgear
Ability to work overtime and weekends as necessary
15% travel required

Preferred

A master's degree in electrical engineering
Direct experience with medium voltage Air and Gas Insulated voltage switchgear (4.16kV to 38kV) and/or low voltage motor control centers (480V), and High Voltage
Experience with Siemens medium voltage switchgear highly preferred
Experience installing or operating medium voltage switchgear (4.16kV to 38kV)
Previous experience with SAP, Salesforce knowledge, or equivalent CRM platform. Able to create reports, modify existing ones, create dashboards, request changes in the tool
