The California Department of Justice is seeking a Crime Analyst II to analyze criminal history information and related records to assess eligibility for firearm purchases. Responsibilities

Analyze criminal history information and other firearms and ammunition related records to determine eligibility to purchase, receive, own or possess firearms and/or ammunition
Contact firearms and ammunition dealers/vendors, along with civil and criminal justice agencies to obtain/clarify additional information related to various firearms and/or ammunition laws
Inquire into various criminal justice databases, request and review criminal records, and contact civil and criminal justice agencies to verify any firearms prohibiting records
Act as the lead resolving critical background checks escalated by CA I
Track and process transactions on the 30-day DROS transaction report
Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions to develop, test and implement business requirements
Delegate and track Personal Firearm Eligibility Check (PFEC) application transactions
Conduct training and quality assurance on CA I PFEC and Basic Ammunition Eligibility (BAEC) workload

Required

Thorough knowledge and understanding of California statutory code sections
Knowledge of the criminal justice system
Understanding of the laws and regulations governing eligibility to purchase/possess firearms and/or ammunition under state and federal law
Experience in analyzing criminal history information and other firearms and ammunition related records
Ability to contact firearms and ammunition dealers/vendors, along with civil and criminal justice agencies to obtain/clarify additional information
Experience in inquiring into various criminal justice databases
Experience in requesting and reviewing criminal records
Ability to verify firearms prohibiting records
Experience in resolving critical background checks
Ability to track and process transactions on the 30-day DROS transaction report
Participation in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions
Ability to delegate and track Personal Firearm Eligibility Check (PFEC) application transactions
Experience in conducting training and quality assurance on CA I PFEC and Basic Ammunition Eligibility (BAEC) workload
