Staff Scientist
Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a research laboratory at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute. The Staff Scientist will investigate the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying neurological disorders and support multiple research projects related to Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

Responsibilities
Maintain mouse colonies, including genotyping, breeding cage setup, and conducting mouse behavioral experiments
Conduct mechanistic studies of candidate small-molecule compounds using biochemical, cellular, and molecular biology techniques
Design, optimize, and execute in vitro and in vivo experiments to support target validation, pathway analysis, and mechanistic hypothesis testing
Perform mouse-based preclinical studies, including compound formulation, dosing regimen design, pharmacodynamic (PD) biomarker assessment, and in vivo efficacy evaluation in Alzheimer’s disease mouse models
Utilize iPSC-derived cellular models to evaluate compound activity, target engagement, cytotoxicity, and disease relevance, supporting translational interpretation of preclinical data
Support the Principal Investigator and pre- and postdoctoral trainees with ongoing scientific research projects
Maintain recombinant DNA laboratory protocols, including renewals and regulatory submissions
Oversee laboratory equipment, including maintenance coordination and service contracts
Document, analyze, and report experimental results to the Principal Investigator in a timely and accurate manner
Attend departmental seminars, attend weekly lab meetings/journal club meetings
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree
Three years of post doctoral research experience
Experience working with mouse models
Experience with small molecule compounds
