Director of Accounting

Filterbuy is a leader in the air quality and manufacturing world, seeking a dependable, highly experienced Director of Accounting to lead day-to-day accounting operations and scale financial reporting in a high-growth environment. The role involves auditing and optimizing accounting platforms, strengthening internal controls, ensuring GAAP compliance, and collaborating with FP&A and business leaders for decision-making support.

Responsibilities

Own and continuously improve the monthly/quarterly/year-end close process (close calendar, review controls, reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany)
Prepare accurate, timely GAAP-compliant financial statements and management reporting packages, including variance explanations
Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team; build capacity and accountability as the company grows
Oversee key accounting operations and controls across GL, AP/AR oversight, fixed assets, payroll accounting coordination, and cash-related processes
Serve as primary liaison for external auditors; manage planning, PBC requests, and drive audit readiness and on-time completion
Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and process documentation; identify gaps and implement corrective actions
Provide technical accounting leadership for complex transactions; ensure consistent application of GAAP with clear documentation
Partner closely with FP&A to align actuals, forecasting inputs, KPI definitions, and reporting cadence; improve the quality and consistency of management insights
Audit existing accounting platforms, workflows, and integrations; assess risks/inefficiencies and deliver a prioritized optimization roadmap
Drive best practices within Sage (chart of accounts structure, dimensions/reporting, master data governance, workflows, and automation)
Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to improve data integrity, system controls, and scalable reporting capabilities
Support tax readiness through strong documentation and coordination with external advisors (income tax, sales/use, and other indirect taxes as applicable)

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Finance acceptable with strong accounting foundation)
CPA required (active or in good standing)
10–15+ years progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years leading teams (Manager/Sr. Manager/Controller-level leadership)
Experience operating in a complex organization, ideally $500M–$1B+ revenue (or equivalent scale/complexity)
Demonstrated ownership of monthly close, financial statement preparation, and external audit management
Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge and ability to research, document, and defend accounting positions
Sage experience required (configuration/use, reporting structure, and process optimization)
Proven partnership with FP&A (forecast support, reporting cadence, and management insights)
High dependability, strong judgment, and excellent attention to detail; able to operate autonomously in a remote environment
Strong written/verbal communication and cross-functional influence; able to drive change without losing stakeholder buy-in

Preferred

Master's in Accounting / MBA
Manufacturing, distribution, or e-commerce experience (COGS/inventory/working-capital complexity)
Budgeting, Tracking, Reconciliation, Forecasting, Variance Analysis
Multi-entity consolidations, intercompany accounting, and complex close environments
Systems integration, automation, and BI/reporting tools experience
SOX-readiness / robust internal controls background
M&A / acquisition integration experience
