Chief Electrical Inspector

Responsibilities
Lead and manage the daily operations of the Electrical Inspection and Plan Review team, including supervision, mentoring, and workload configuration
Perform advanced on-site electrical inspections of residential, commercial, industrial, and specialty structures for compliance with the Florida Building Code and NFPA standards
Conduct in-depth electrical plan reviews, evaluating construction documents, engineered drawings, service calculations, load analysis, fire alarm systems, low voltage systems, and other electrical components
Approve or reject plans and permit applications based on code compliance; issue details plan review comments
Provide authoritative guidance and code interpretations to inspectors, contractors, engineers, and municipal staff
Maintain accurate, timely documentation of plan review comments, inspection results, and code determinations
Develop training, standard procedures, and quality-control practices for both inspection and plan review functions
Participate in meetings, appeals, public hearings, and technical committees as required
Qualification
Required

Extensive knowledge of the Florida Building Code, NEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, and related electrical safety standards
Must possess the ability to positively interact with other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental agencies, and other clientele
Leadership and team management capabilities with the ability to mentor inspectors and plans examiners
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Good time management, organization, and attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment
Ability to prepare written plan review correspondence and update information into company software programs
Candidate must be able to handle multiple projects in a fast paced atmosphere
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
FL Inspector License in Electrical required
FL Plans Examiner License in Electrical required
FL Certified Electrical Contractor's or Master Electrician license required
3-5 years combined experience in building department field inspection and plans examiner duties
High school diploma or equivalent
Acceptable driving record
Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling to conduct inspections
Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated or confined areas
Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds (e.g., inspection tools, plans, or small equipment)
Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans, technical documents, and observe construction details
Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection
Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors, workers, and the public in noisy environments
Use of hands and fingers to handle tools, operate inspection equipment, and use computers/tablets for reporting
Work performed in both office and field settings
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and construction site environments (noise, dust, uneven terrain)
Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region
