Chief Probation/Parole Officer-Cumberland County
The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies responsible for safeguarding and supervising adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. The Chief Probation/Parole Officer supervises staff, manages workflows, and ensures effective implementation of Community Supervision goals while handling crisis interventions and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Supervises Probation/Parole Officers, Judicial Services Coordinators, and clerical staff in the unit
Coordinates and manages the unit’s workflow to ensure the effective implementation of Community Supervision goals and strategies
Handles daily operations and makes decisions about offender supervision
Includes case assignments, workflow coordination, scheduling, time tracking, and staff training
Deals with discipline, conflicts, and complaints as needed, oversees team staffing and employee performance
Engages in crisis interventions and meets with stakeholders, requiring a flexible schedule that includes regular 8-5 hours and the need to be available 24/7 for emergency calls
Analyzes crisis situations and provides immediate responses, therefore, is often involved in developing and carrying out specialized control strategies independently
May handle an active caseload with possible second-shift hours and/or may serve on EHA response team which includes on-call status and the need to respond to EHA violations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution
Four years of experience as a North Carolina Probation/Parole Officer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission
The CPPO must possess the skills necessary to qualify annually with a firearm and unarmed self-defense
Complete CPR annually
Be indirectly exposed to O.C. Pepper Spray as part of a training exercise
The CPPO must reside within 30 miles of the county of assignment within 90 days of their start date
Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job
Preferred
Demonstrated experience with case planning, structured intervention worksheets and delegated authority
Working knowledge of structured sentencing, evidence-based principles, and Justice Reinvestment
Thorough knowledge of North Carolina offender supervision and determination of appropriate levels, available treatment services and community resources
Experience in a mentorship or leadership role, such as a team lead or providing guidance to interns or volunteers
Demonstrates understanding of diverse populations by applying inclusive communication and respectful practices that foster equity, trust, and effective collaboration
