Battery Modeling Engineer, Vehicle Systems Design & Architecture

Responsibilities
Design, develop, and enhance Tesla’s in-house powertrain performance models to support vehicle architecture decisions and performance optimization
Create, use, and validate battery/cell models that accurately predict behavior under diverse conditions (e.g., fast charging, high-performance driving, extreme temperatures)
Integrate models into simulation frameworks for system-level validation and cross-team alignment
Collaborate with stakeholders (engineering, product, and data teams) to translate modeling insights into actionable design requirements and performance benchmarks
Qualification
Required
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
Excellent understanding of first-principles physics, including electrical systems, energy storage, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics
Basic understanding in battery thermo-electrical interactions, ion/electron transfer processes, and electrochemical modeling
Proficiency in powertrain component modeling (hybrid/electric) using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or similar
Familiarity with vehicle-level simulations
Proficiency in numerical methods, differential equations, linear algebra, statistics, and optimization
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. Preference for working in teams
