Responsibilities

You will cultivate a deep bench of sources that drive scoops and power coverage
You will write with authority, clarity, and independently
You will own assignments from conception through publication, delivering clean, authoritative copy on deadline
You will drive original coverage by identifying emerging cultural narratives and stories that merit national attention
You will capture Texas culture through compelling stories in various formats for a national audience
You will monitor news and delivering a steady stream of story ideas that help explain Texas and the surrounding region
You will produce exclusive stories that demonstrate beat authority
You will have experience with new story-telling approaches, particularly video and podcasting
Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world
You will work collaboratively with the Texas Editor and a number of desks in New York, from Culture to Styles to Real Estate to Food
You will report to the Texas Editor

Required

5+ years experience in journalism
Writing skills that demonstrate mastery of journalistic style and standards, including ethical and superb news judgment
A portfolio that includes culture, lifestyles, styles, and feature writing
Experience covering Texas
You will cultivate a deep bench of sources that drive scoops and power coverage
You will write with authority, clarity, and independently
You will own assignments from conception through publication, delivering clean, authoritative copy on deadline
