Internship Specialist (Learning to Work)
#DegreesNYC is a community-based agency that supports services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. They are seeking an Internship Specialist to support a cohort of student interns, manage internship programs, and liaise between students and worksites to ensure successful internship experiences and post-secondary plans.
Education Management
Responsibilities
With Internship Coordinator, maintain relationships with internship sites
Participate in creating a seamless web of support for the student that includes school personnel, family and community opportunities
Share updates with interns regarding meetings, trainings, and schedule changes
Ensure interns receive all required information related to program expectations
Assist with scheduling group meetings and notifying interns
Track intern training attendance and flag missing or inconsistent participation
Ensure interns are assigned to the correct training rooms or locations
Monitor punctuality for trainings and after-school worksites
Flag no-call/no-show incidents immediately
Call worksites as needed to confirm intern attendance
Support with placement and monitoring of participants at internship worksites (minimum once a month)
Distribute internship timesheets and explain deadlines
Collect and review timesheets and classroom sign-in sheets
Flag missing or inaccurate paperwork
Assist with organizing documents for payroll
Support with distributing checks or stipends
Support lead facilitator with students to develop employability skills (Resume building, Cover letter writing, Mock Interviews, completion of internship application, job shadowing opportunities) through individual and group activities
Maintain tracking logs for attendance and paperwork
Flag interns with inconsistent participation
Collaborate in the successful management of the internship program with Internship Coordinator, LTW Program Director, GRCC staff, NYCDOE Staff and the community
Lead and/or champion school events to build community, pride and a welcoming environment
Maintain and organize all required records and files according to organization and contractual requirements and standards
Collaborate with LTW Program Director with functions such as special events, performances, school community events
Attend and participate in-school / community-based meetings, administrative meetings, professional development trainings and other meetings as needed
Complete task and/ projects assigned by Counseling Director, LTW Program Director, ADED and DED
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma
Strong reliability and punctuality
Comfortable communicating by phone and in person
Basic computer skills
Willingness to learn
Must obtain Department of Education fingerprint clearance and maintain throughout duration of employment
Outstanding communication skills
