Genentech is a leading biotechnology company, and they are seeking a 2026 Summer Intern for their Discovery Immunology and Ophthalmology department. The intern will contribute to drug discovery by developing novel human in vitro models to investigate Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and collaborate with researchers across departments.

Responsibilities

Contribute to a highly innovative project and collaborate productively with researchers across departments at Genentech

Design and perform cell culture experiments to contribute to new model development and characterization using molecular biology techniques, imaging, and bioengineering

Analyze and interpret experimental data to delineate the mechanisms underlying AMD biology

Present findings at group meetings and contribute to scientific discussions

Required

Must have attained a Master's Degree

Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student)

Required Majors: Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering, or related fields

Experience with human cell culture, iPSC, or organoids

Skills in molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, and state-of-the-art imaging methods, including fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, and image analysis software's

Ability to work independently, troubleshoot, and design experiments to address key project questions

Driven, passionate, and proactive with demonstrated ability to be highly motivated and work independently

Preferred

Experience in bioengineering or omics technologies

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
