The State of Colorado is seeking a First Assistant Attorney General to lead the Consumer Credit Enforcement Unit within the Department of Law. This role involves overseeing consumer financial protection enforcement, managing a team, and handling complex legal cases related to consumer credit and protection laws.

Responsibilities
Lead Colorado’s consumer financial protection enforcement, including protecting Coloradans from predatory lenders, debt collectors, student loan servicers, and debt settlement companies
Participate in investigations and handle independent caseload with minimal assistance
Participate in and lead multistate investigations in the consumer financial protection space
Supervise and lead rulemaking under the state’s consumer financial protection authorities
Analyze legislative bills that amend Colorado’s consumer financial protection statutes
Facilitate the work and operations of the Unit, promoting collaboration, engagement, integrity, and exceptional legal service
Assign and oversee cases, coordinate workflow, and carry an independent workload
Handle a caseload of complex or high-profile cases, supervise staff, and serve as a frontline leader
Responsible for employee performance management activities and assisting the Assistant Deputy Attorney General with personnel, budget, and various administrative duties affecting the work of the Unit and the Department of Law
Qualification
Required
Applicants for the First Assistant Attorney General – Consumer Credit Enforcement Unit position must be admitted to the Colorado bar or clearly eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar and be in good standing at the time of application
Candidates eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar will be required to submit proof of their completed application before the first day of employment
Applicants must pass a thorough background investigation prior to appointment
Preferred
Strong experience as a litigator and trial lawyer with substantial depth in consumer financial protection issues
Demonstrated competency in litigating complex cases
Prior management or supervisory experience leading a diverse workforce and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as a leader
Outstanding writing, analytical, and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with a variety and diversity of personalities
Ability to lead with empathy and be a big-picture problem solver
Commitment to serving the public interest and/or have prior public sector or public service experience
