Structural Analysis Engineer III - New Glenn Upper Stage (Fixed Term)

Blue Origin is dedicated to developing reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems. The Structural Analysis Engineer III will perform analysis on tank structures, create documentation, and provide guidance to design engineers, all while supporting production and operational phases of the New Glenn launch vehicle.

Responsibilities

Perform analysis on primary and secondary tank structures using classic hand calculations as well as Finite Element Model (FEM) simulations to support design, manufacturing and operations
Create analysis documentation that is concise and accurate
Perform peer reviews of analysis and reports generated by other team members
Provide structural analysis guidance to design engineers as well as junior structural analysts
Support production issues, ongoing testing and mission operations

Required

B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 5+ years of structural analysis experience with aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle structures or automotive
Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle load path and stress analysis of metallic and/or composite structures (pressure vessels, skin-stringer, fittings, sandwich panels, etc.)
Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark, etc.)
Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications to achieve optimal structures
Experience with at least two of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct, NASGRO
Demonstrated experience using scripting languages (VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN, etc.)
Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred

MS degree in engineering or equivalent
Experience in large scale structural test and instrumentation
Proficiency with ANSYS Mechanical Strongly desired
Working knowledge of linear-elastic fracture mechanics fundamentals
Working knowledge of MATLAB
