TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST
NAVWAR is seeking a Traffic Management Specialist in the SUBASE New London Branch of NAVSUP FLEET LOGISTICS CENTER NORFOLK. The role involves managing transportation priorities, scheduling pickups, and ensuring compliance with customs and shipping regulations for various commodities.

Responsibilities
You will use in depth knowledge the transportation priority system when it comes to customer requisitions and meeting UMMIPS time frame requirements, scheduling daily pickup, traffic management, freight Classification and rating of shipments
You will determine special service and equipment required for shipment of a wide and disparate assortment of commodities via all modes of transportation
You will be responsible for many shipments involving complicated joint routing, using several modes of transportation and adhering to complex customs clearance requirements
You will study the possibility of consolidating shipments and using alternate transportation modes to achieve greater economy of operations
You will create and review documentation to procure best value services from commercial carriers
You will plan and execute transportation requests involving in-depth knowledge of specialized handling, specialized equipment and load planning
Qualification
Required
Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326

This is a bargaining unit position
You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent Traffic Management Specialist experience in the private or public sector utilizing a practical knowledge of established transportation regulations, requirements, and techniques governing the movement of material and use of commercial carriers to ship personal property, general and/or hazardous cargo
Experience researching the possibility of consolidating shipments and using alternate transportation modes to achieve greater economy of operations
Plan and execute transportation requests involving an in-depth knowledge of specialized handling, specialized equipment and load planning
Determine special service and equipment required for shipment of a wide and disparate assortment of commodities, from small parcel parts shipments, ships propellers, small arms and explosives, hazardous materials, submarine assemblies, classified and secret material, via all modes of transportation
Utilize various transportation computer information systems to ensure the timely delivery of equipment to destination, ensuring material shipped is properly marked, classified and packed for the method of shipment chosen
Utilize automated transportation databases to create and review documentation to procure best value services from commercial carriers
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.B. or J.D., if related
Possession of a certificate as Certified Member, American Society of Transportation and Logistics meets the requirements for GS-5
