Director of Terminal Operations

Tri Star Freight System, Inc. is seeking a Director of Terminal Operations responsible for overseeing all terminal operations. This role involves managing staff, ensuring safety compliance, developing strategies for terminal performance, and maintaining customer relationships.

Responsibilities

Oversee daily terminal operations to ensure efficiency and safety
Manage terminal staff effectively, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations
Perform all Dispatcher duties, both intermodal and linehaul for household goods
Coordinate, schedule and dispatch local, OTR and intermodal transportation loads to ensure timely and accurate deliveries/pick-ups
Process and input workorders and print dispatch sheets for drivers
Locate loads, empties
Check releases in the port rail system
Release equipment
Update systems as needed
Monitor and answer emails hourly
Prepare daily drop and dispatch report
Review and monitor daily reports in web applications
Process driver settlements correctly and on time
Process demurrage / per diem
Process assessorial charges / billing authorizations
Process tire bills
Process and understand swing orders and renting a chassis
Monitor yard report for containers LFD
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies and procedures
Develop and implement strategies to improve terminal performance
Maintain accurate records of terminal activities and prepare reports as needed
Monitor terminal budget and control costs
Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise in terminal operations
Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations
Conduct regular inspections of terminal facilities and equipment
Implement and enforce standard operating procedures
Ensure customer satisfaction by addressing any concerns or complaints. Ensure that all customer complaints are acted upon quickly and the results are monitored
Maintain credibility
Plan and coordinate terminal activities to meet operational goals
Monitor and analyze terminal performance metrics
Ensure proper maintenance and repair of terminal equipment
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, and the business community
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations
Manage inventory and ensure proper storage of goods
Coordinate emergency response activities as needed
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices
Maintain the confidentiality and security of company and customer records
Thoroughly think through and refer to company values and company policies before making decisions
Always represent TSFS in a professional demeanor
Complete and perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required

Minimum of 4 years of experience in terminal management or a similar role
Minimum of 5 years experience in the Transportation, Freight, Supply Chain and/or Logistics Industry
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Dispatcher in the transportation/freight industry
Minimum of 3 years of container Intermodal Dispatch experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience working with owner operators
Minimum of 3 years of port and rail experience
Minimum of 3 years of warehouse management
Proficient computer skills that include Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word
Valid driver license
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Ability to build relationships and to earn the respect of the team
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Ability to manage budgets and control costs
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively
Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion and confidentiality
Ability to conduct root cause analysis

Must be highly dependable as attendance, being on time as well as being at work as expected is very important

Preferred

Experience in the management of military or commercial household goods moves
Forklift Certification
Extensive knowledge of inner workings and requirements of the Port of LA, Port of Long Beach, all local rail heads and depots, and coordination of dispatching semi-trucks to pull & drop containers at all of these locations
A bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics or Supply Chain Management
