Responsibilities

Serve as an Arizona senior technical expert and thought leader in Transportation Mobility and Advanced Modeling
Responsible for driving technical excellence, integrating data science, and applying high-fidelity modeling techniques, encompassing Strategic / Regional Planning, Corridor Analysis, Microsimulation, and Operational / Capacity Analysis, to solve complex traffic, safety, and operational challenges across freeway and municipal projects
This role balances technical delivery, business development, and staff mentorship
Lead the technical deployment and application of diverse modeling platforms across all scales: Strategic / Regional Planning (e.g., Travel Demand Models), Corridor Analysis (e.g., Mesoscopic models), and Microsimulation (e.g., VISSIM, Aimsun)
Oversee the application of Operational / Capacity Analysis tools (e.g., Synchro, HCS) to optimize network performance
Drive innovation in the application of emerging transportation technologies, including ITS/TSMO, connected/automated vehicles (CAV), and mobility-as-a-service (MaaS), leveraging advanced modeling and data science to enhance project delivery and client offerings
Serve as the technical lead and Subject Matter Expert (SME) on complex, high-impact projects requiring advanced Strategic / Regional Planning, Corridor Analysis, Microsimulation, and Operational / Capacity Analysis to ensure the highest quality of traffic modeling and design recommendations
Develop project scopes and budgets, interface with and maintain clients, mentor and development of junior staff, and development of project plans and schedules
Meet with clients to prepare and or validate proposed scopes of work
Lead the technical strategy and content for proposals focused on Mobility, Safety, and Congestion Relief
Function as a key Seller/Doer by presenting advanced technical concepts and modeling results to clients (DOTs, MPOs, cities)
Experience speaking to the public and interacting with local and state agencies is preferred
Must be able to demonstrate successful records of Business Development, program/project management for established A-E firms, managing budgeted design efforts, and demonstrated skills working in multi-discipline teams
Mentor and train mid- and junior-level staff in advanced modeling techniques across all scales of Strategic / Regional Planning, Corridor Analysis, Microsimulation, and Operational / Capacity Analysis, integrating data analytics and mobility data science into traditional traffic engineering workflows
Demonstrate clear and concise, oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to coordinate meetings, resources, and presentations

Required

Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or a related field
Minimum of ten (10) years of transportation engineering experience
Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) and eligible for registration in the States where AZTEC has offices
Good analytical, problem solving and data management skills
Good communicator with experience in technical writing and oral presentation
Ability to manage projects, develop work, and provide excellent client service
Travel required when necessary
Proven knowledge and skills in both MicroStation and AutoCAD
Expert-level proficiency in microsimulation software (VISSIM/SimTraffic, Aimsun, TransModeler) AND Travel Demand Modeling (TDM) software (EMME or Visum) for Strategic / Regional Planning and Corridor Analysis
Required experience with Operational / Capacity Analysis tools (e.g., Synchro, HCS) and Python or R for transportation data analysis
Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier

Preferred

Other certifications are a plus but not required, including California T.E. and/or PTOE certification
DOT and municipality experience in all facets of engineering for multiple states
Knowledge of roadway modeling software a plus: Civil 3D and InRoads
Marketing experience is a plus
Experience speaking to the public and interacting with local and state agencies
