Chief Inspector - Roadway
GFT is seeking an experienced Chief Inspector to join their Construction Services team in Connecticut, focusing on roadway-related transportation projects. This role involves leading field operations, ensuring quality and safety, and managing project documentation while engaging with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Manage the daily observation of contractor operations for a roadway/bridge construction projects
Serve as the field point of contact for the client and all project stakeholders
Supervise and coordinate an assigned field office, including inspectors, community liaisons, and office engineers
Conduct reviews and verifications of construction schedules, including baseline and updates, in coordination with the client
Perform inspections and oversee field testing
Assist in the preparation and negotiation of construction change orders
Prepare weekly and monthly project reports
Review payment vouchers, manning reports, payroll certifications, and other labor documentation from the contractor
Chair project progress meetings and distribute meeting minutes
Ensure site safety, permit compliance, and coordination with adjacent projects
Monitor contractor compliance with safety and health plans as well as quality assurance requirements
Work with the contractor to minimize disruptions to the public
Log and coordinate with designers to respond to contractor submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings
Prepare punch lists with the owner upon project completion
Solve complex challenges relating to project schedules and budgets
Oversee project personnel, timesheets, leave, and general team management
Conduct cost-to-complete analyses
Utilize spreadsheets, databases, and scheduling software to support project management functions
Qualification
Required
PE or CCM or EIT
Valid NICET Level IV Certification
5 years of general transportation construction experience
4 years of field inspection experience
2 years of supervisory experience
Demonstrated experience performing Chief Inspector duties on NYSDOT or ConDOT projects
Considerable knowledge of highway, bridge, rail, or facilities construction practices and procedures
Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, and recommendations related to construction issues
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, and project teams
Proven supervisory ability in a construction or inspection environment
Ability to establish, organize, and maintain accurate project records
Willing to work nights
Valid driver's license
OSHA 30-hour safety training certification
Preferred
Prior experience with ConDOT
Working knowledge of Project Management Procedures and Project Management Guidelines preferred
