Senior Technical Digital Designer

Responsibilities
Reviews client and project contracts and ensures BIM requirements align with project expectations and deliverables
Develops, implements and maintains BIM execution plans for assigned projects
Establishes the process and oversees the roll-out and implementation to the project team. Coordinates with the other BIM leads from the consultant teams as needed
Sets up BIM models and templates. Provides training and technical guidance for project teams
Manages the ongoing health of the BIM model and working with the team to maintain compliance with project requirements
Leads clash detections processes and coordinates resolution efforts throughout all project phases. Monitors clash resolution efforts throughout the project per Project/Contract requirements
Seeks opportunities to leverage digital design tools and processes to maximize the efficiency and flexibility of project teams through the development, coordination, and implementation of firm-wide initiatives
Produces, coordinates and/or oversees presentation and contract deliverables such as diagrams, 3D models, drawings, renderings, physical models and animations
Effectively communicates internally with project teams and externally with consultants and clients through timely and appropriate written, oral, and visual means
Actively collaborates at a project, consultant team, and client team level by critically and constructively evaluating ideas. Contributes to and actively participates within the studio and office with specialized BIM/design technology knowledge
Proactively checks and coordinates project documents (including but not limited to drawing set organization, details, dimensions, interdisciplinary coordination items, specifications coordination) for compliance with the project’s technical requirements
Collaborates and assists with other offices in the development of digital tools, standards and processes and implements them at the local project/office level
Assists in office-wide Digital Design training initiatives
Develops leadership presence office-wide as a resource for digital design efforts
Assists with the planning, scheduling and organization of project plans relative to digital design tools and processes in collaboration with senior project team members
Identifies and evaluates new and innovative digital tools and processes to enhance design flexibility, documentation efficiency and presentation clarity
Develops thorough understanding of design philosophy of projects and provides input in developing digital tools and processes relative to assigned task or area of responsibility and can effectively convey this to assigned team members when appropriate
Seeks creative and innovative solutions to assigned tasks and develops appropriate research and documentation to support these solutions
Actively collaborates with and coordinates work of consultants and knowledge resources to ensure that deliverables are coordinated, integrated and support the performance goals of the project
Assists in the review of design and construction documents in order to comply with the approved requirements of the client
Proactively checks and coordinates digital design deliverables and is responsible for quality control of such tasks in accordance with SOM’s work standards
Proactively checks, coordinates and integrates work with other project team members
Supports the use of digital tools in reviewing show drawing submittals
May assist in developing responses to contractor questions, inquiries, RFI’s etc. relative to leveraging digital tools and processes
Assists in the preparation of punch-lists and field observation reports relative to leveraging digital tools and processes
Coordinates with other Technical Design teams to implement SOM standard procedures and protocols to assure continuity and consistency of project documentation across the firm in support of overall firm wide goals
Maintains an external presence at industry events related to BIM, visualization, automation and other relevant advancements in design technology
Inspires and leads others by example, participates in staff mentoring and training, clearly defines team member expectations and responsibilities, empowers others, and delegates where appropriate based on team members’ recognized abilities and potential
Develops and/or manages, in collaboration with team members, a clear and consistent work plan to achieve the project budget, deliverables, and schedule
Actively engages in internal and external professional development opportunities
Contributes to the implementation of sustainable strategies in all project assignments and the associated development of staff knowledge
Contributes to the development of standards, policies, and procedures
Protects SOM from financial and legal risk
Qualification
Required
Completion of a professional degree in Architecture or a related field
Minimum 6 years of professional experience or equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities
Actively pursuing or has achieved relevant professional accreditation and licensure
Actively pursuing or has achieved LEED professional accreditation
Demonstrates strong proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, BIM and AutoCAD and interoperability between documentation, visualization and design software workflows
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of BIM Information Management such as but not limited to: file extraction for quantity take off, schedules, phasing and construction simulation, cost estimation; asset management, COBie Classification
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of ISO 19650 LOIN and BIM Forum LOD
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of architectural building systems, Construction Types I, II & IV, sustainability, and integrated design
Demonstrates working knowledge of building code and ability to research and apply into technical construction documents
Preferred
Proficiency in 3D modeling software - Rhino, parametric and rendering software, and other graphic software preferred
Proficiency in various types of construction management and software preferred
LEED accreditation preferred
