Vice President of Business Development
Hydrix is a global product development partner specializing in regulated medical technology. They are seeking a Vice President of Business Development to drive new business opportunities in the medical device market, focusing on building relationships and shaping high-value product development programs.
Responsibilities
Build and manage senior-level relationships with medical device OEMs, start-ups, and innovation teams across the US and Europe
Establish and maintain a balanced pipeline of product development opportunities, ranging from small engagements through to large multi-million-dollar programs
Lead complex, consultative sales cycles involving multi-disciplinary engineering and regulatory services
Shape opportunities early by working with clients to understand clinical intent, technical requirements, regulatory pathways, timelines, and commercial constraints
Communicate Hydrix differentiated value in regulated medical device development, design controls, and systems engineering
Support proposal development, pricing strategy, and contract negotiations for complex development programs
Identify and communicate commercial, technical, regulatory, financial, and delivery risks associated with potential engagements
Act as a trusted technical and commercial advisor to clients during the sales cycle and, where required, early-stage product definition
Represent Hydrix in dealings with industry associations, partners, and relevant government or regulatory bodies
Contribute to business development strategy across target regions, including market positioning, account targeting, and go-to-market approach
Maintain a strong understanding of market trends, funding dynamics, and innovation activity within the medical device sector
Work closely with internal engineering, regulatory, and program management teams to shape client engagements and define win strategies
Support internal resource prioritization and opportunity selection based on financial return, strategic alignment, and organisational capability
Maintain accurate and current CRM data relating to leads, prospects, qualified opportunities, and client relationships
Collaborate with our BD team reporting regularly to the Head of Business Development on opportunity status, strategy, risks, and commercial outcomes
Qualification
Required
Engineering degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
Significant hands-on experience earlier in career as an engineer working on Class II and or Class III medical devices
Demonstrated involvement in design controls, risk management, and regulatory pathways including FDA 510(k), PMA, and CE Marking
Extensive experience in senior business development, commercial leadership, or strategic partnerships within the medical device sector
Proven ability to sell complex, non-commoditized engineering and development services
Strong communication skills with technical, regulatory, and executive stakeholders
Ability to operate credibly as a peer to engineering and leadership teams
Established network of influencers and decision-makers involved in medical device development and innovation
Preferred
Previous experience working for a product development consultancy, engineering services firm, or regulated technology services provider
Experience selling development services into US and or European medical device markets
Background engaging with start-ups, scale-ups, and well-established medical device companies
Experience working across multiple time zones with globally distributed delivery teams
