The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking a Supervisory Aviation Safety Inspector to manage a Flight Standards organization. Responsibilities

Execute the Agency's aviation safety mission, communicate and build change coalitions, seek out opportunities and involve their teams in supporting change across the organization, and employ best practices for sponsoring change and manage resistance
Manage and set clear performance standards that promote accountability, a sense of individual responsibility, professionalism, and pride for organizational performance to next level managers
Ensure effective managerial work and work quality across all units and cross-organizational relationships while maintaining unit and individual wellbeing
Responsible for the leadership, planning, prioritizing, direction, communication, tasking, training, and scheduling of work
Responsible for time and attendance, leave approval, performance evaluation, corrective and disciplinary actions, and the setting of the front-line office goals and objectives
Support effective problem solving by ensuring subordinates are accountable to address challenges and barriers and are clear about roles and responsibilities for decision-making
Confirm active collaboration occurs beyond the office/branch and that solutions fully consider and represent all relevant perspectives/interests
Delegate work and empower subordinates to decentralize decision-making
Confirm subordinates take on expected work and produce intended results with minimal intervention
Ensure subordinates communicate progress and barriers, and coordinate decisions across organizational boundaries as appropriate
Apply an advanced knowledge of budget, human resource, and other administrative policies and procedures, and an advanced understanding of the objectives of the major subdivision
Make effective resourcing decisions across several work units, teams, or groups; making certain that work units deliver expected output within required time frame and budget
Perform critical aspects of the budget planning process, including projecting short-term and long-term future needs and justifying resource requirements
Resolve all but unique problems without the intervention of higher-level management
Hold subordinate managers accountable for maintaining mutually productive partnerships with stakeholders as demonstrated by productive conflict and effective action taking to address issues impeding effectiveness
Meet with stakeholders regularly
Select and develop next level managers in accordance with established selection and development guidance and processes
Ensure selections for those positions meet the expectations of FS and represent both individual competency and temperament for working as a productive team member to increase the field of future leader talent
Demonstrate leadership and commitment to the FAA model EEO program

Required

US Citizenship is required
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
Must submit an SF50 (See Required Documents)
May be required to serve a one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period
Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years
Valid State driver's license
Fluency in the English language
No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance
High school diploma or equivalent
Have good distant vision in each eye and be able to read, without strain, printed materials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted)
Have the ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted)
Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft
Possess a valid second – class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations
Pass recurrent medical examinations as prescribed by the FAA
Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and systems of multi-engine aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds maximum certificated takeoff weight maintained under an airworthiness maintenance and inspection program
Aircraft maintenance experience in a repair station; air carrier or airline repair facility; military repair facility; or local, state, or Federal governmental agency
Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and aircraft systems with responsibility for certifying airworthiness
Aircraft maintenance work experience within the last 3 years
FAA Mechanic Certificate with airframe and power plant ratings
To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-J/FG-14
Specialized experience may include but is not limited to experience monitoring and evaluating programs for compliance with regulations and standards in Air Carrier Maintenance
Conveying technical information to a variety of audiences during meetings, presentations, briefings or in written reports
Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and organizational objectives
Supervisory and strategic leadership experience

Describe your experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS), Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) part 5 as it pertains to a Part 121 Certificate Holder. Please explain and provide examples
Describe your experience with the FAA Integrated Oversight Philosophy, FAA Order 8000.72, in your current position. Please explain and provide examples
