Senior Counsel - Consumer Goods Regulatory and Compliance

Responsibilities
Advise consumer-product, food, supplement, and wellness companies on FTC advertising compliance and FDA regulatory requirements, including claim substantiation, labeling, endorsements, pricing, and digital marketing
Review and clear marketing materials, packaging, websites, social media, influencer content, and retailer-facing claims for compliance with federal and state consumer-protection laws
Provide practical, business-oriented guidance to help companies launch products responsibly, scale compliantly, and mitigate regulatory and litigation risk
Support responses to FTC inquiries, FDA warning letters, state AG investigations, and consumer demand letters, including CLRA, UCL, and FAL matters
Work on the enforcement side against bad actors, including investigations and litigation targeting deceptive advertising, unlawful product claims, and practices that harm consumers and public health
Assist with consumer class actions and impact-driven enforcement matters, including legal research, drafting, discovery, and coordination with experts and co-counsel
Track and analyze emerging regulatory and enforcement trends in areas such as supplements, 'natural' and sustainability claims, PFAS and heavy metals, influencer marketing, and digital advertising
Collaborate closely with regulatory, marketing, product, and executive teams, as well as mission-aligned partners, to drive accountability and raise industry standards
Qualification
Required
J.D. from an accredited law school and active license in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (California preferred but not required)
4+ years of experience in consumer products law, FTC advertising, FDA regulatory compliance, or related consumer-protection, regulatory, or litigation practice
Working knowledge of FTC Act, FDA/DSHEA frameworks, and state consumer-protection statutes, including CLRA, UCL, FAL, and similar UDAP laws
Experience reviewing or advising on marketing and advertising claims, including digital marketing, influencer campaigns, labeling, packaging, and product launches
Ability to assess and communicate regulatory and litigation risk clearly and pragmatically to business, marketing, and product stakeholders
Interest in—or experience with—enforcement, investigations, or litigation against deceptive or unlawful practices, whether through government, plaintiff-side, or impact-driven work
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to draft persuasive pleadings, regulatory responses, and client-facing guidance
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple matters in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Demonstrated judgment, integrity, and a commitment to consumer protection and public-interest outcomes
