Central Plateau Cleanup Company (CPCCo) is committed to providing a sustainable future for the Hanford area through environmental remediation efforts. The Scientist will support the environmental restoration program by ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and contributing to the cleanup objectives through data evaluation and technical documentation.
Responsibilities
Supporting soil and groundwater remedies through data evaluation, reviewing, organizing, evaluating, and reporting groundwater and soils data, and remedy optimization
Performing evaluations to determine whether monitoring networks, monitoring plans, and their supporting documents address regulatory requirements, and contribute to the completion of environmental cleanup objectives
Developing technical approaches and defining strategic approaches for cleanup and closure for remediation decisions for CERCLA and RCRA programs
Incorporating accepted Hanford cleanup approaches into the regulatory documents under development, which includes incorporation of DOE's Central Plateau Principles, human health and ecological risk assessment scenarios, and negotiated land use and cleanup levels
Authoring, reviewing, and delivering technical and regulatory documents demonstrating compliance with RCRA/DW requirements, groundwater monitoring, closure, and permit development to support environmental cleanup
Ensuring that regulatory documents meet customer and regulator expectations and are consistent with the previous approaches used for Hanford cleanup as well as meeting the strategic vision for completing cleanup
Ensuring that environmental documents to support groundwater, closure, and permit requirements are compliant with applicable regulations
Preparing presentations materials, preparing meeting notes, defining investigation needs, and preparing sampling and analysis plans
Creating presentations and responding to comments from the State of Washington Department of Ecology, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Working closely with the DOE customers on scope definition, disposition of document review comments, and project schedules
Cooperatively working with DOE, State of Washington Department of Ecology and EPA in meetings and workshops
Working within a structured team on special and routine tasks for completing the baseline scope, requests by the local DOE customer, DOE headquarters and the local regulators
Coordinating and conducting discussions with clients and regulatory agencies for the purpose of communicating progress and issues associated with groundwater monitoring, regulatory compliance, closure and corrective action
Working with a team of environmental professionals to develop and implement process improvements
Reporting progress and issues to senior management
Performing work in a safe, compliant, and cost-effective manner
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or related technical degree with 6 or more years of relevant experience
Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or related technical degree with 8 or more years of relevant experience
Preferred
Ability to work within a structured team environment on special and routine tasks for completing the contract scope
Experience with technical writing of environmental reports/documents including field sampling and analysis plans
Knowledge of soil and groundwater sample collection and analysis
Experience interpreting and using field and laboratory analytical data
Experience with well drilling methods and techniques
Understand environmental regulations and programs such as RCRA, and CERCLA
Experience with Data Quality Objective process and data evaluation skills
Experience working within the RCRA process to address groundwater monitoring regulatory compliance
Experience working with regulatory agencies
