Senior LevelRBG Kew is a leading plant science institute seeking a talented data protection professional to join as the Data Protection Officer (DPO). The DPO will be responsible for monitoring compliance with data protection laws, advising the organization on legal obligations, and fostering best practices throughout the organization.

Monitoring compliance with data protection laws
Advising the organization on legal obligations
Fostering best practices throughout the organization
Collaborating with information governance teams and external data protection groups
Handling personal data related incidents
Managing data protection workstreams independently
Reporting on compliance to internal stakeholders
Acting as the single point of contact for external data protection engagement
Qualification
Required
Experience in operating at a senior level
Handling personal data related incidents
Data subject rights requests
Providing detailed advice
Subject matter expert on relevant legislation including UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Privacy and Electronic Communication Regulations 2003, and Freedom of Information Act 2000
Understanding of records management and information security practices
Ability to train staff and communicate legislative requirements to all levels of the organisation
Experience in managing data protection workstreams independently
Ability to report on compliance to internal stakeholders including Data Protection Steering Group, Information Governance Group, Executive Board, and Board of Trustees
Acting as the single point of contact for external data protection engagement
