EHS Specialist II

Responsibilities
Implement the elements of the Chemical Process Safety Program to assure compliance with regulatory agencies and Technical Standard
Develop, revise, and prepare Safety & Environmental Trainings based on new Regulatory requirements, Basic Operating Procedures changes, or Divisional / Corporate requirements and provide EHS Trainings to different departments and areas as required by Basic Operating Procedures, Training Matrix, and Regulatory Agencies
Lead Plant Incident Investigations, including Fire, Spill, and Medical incidents, by collecting inputs from various sources and promote discussion with Plant groups to reach agreements on appropriate actions and recommendations
Serve as a facilitator in providing the guidance and direction to the Safety Committee group at the Plant
General responsibility for the development of safety criteria to eliminate or control hazards encountered in the operation and maintenance of the Plant
Lead Plant EHS Self Assessments and Risk Assessments by collecting inputs from various sources and promote discussion with Plant groups to reach agreements on appropriate actions and recommendations
Provide guidance to different departments to assure compliance with Federal and local Regulations by following Plant / Divisional / Corporate Procedures and Policies
Implement, revise, or prepare EHS Procedures and Programs to meet Global Standards, Federal and Local Regulations by collecting inputs from various sources and promote discussion with Plant groups to reach agreements on appropriate actions and recommendations
Develop recordkeeping and report generation systems as to fully support the regulatory agencies, Corporate and Division requirements with respect to compliance programs

Safety And Osha Regulations Knowledge And Experience Is Required
Actively participate in the analysis of problems of the different situations presented by collecting inputs from various sources and promote discussion with plant staff and division groups to reach agreement on appropriate priorities establishment for capital expenditure, maintenance programs, and/or new systems for Safety, Health, and Environmental issues
Conduct risk assessments for the implementation of new systems and the improvement of current EHS programs to ensure compliance of our operations in a proactive manner

Bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, (i.e. BSChE, BSME), Bachelor's degree in science or industrial safety
At least six (6) years of combined experience managing environmental, health and safety programs to assure compliance with government regulations and company policies
Must be eager to participate in the development of new ideas and/or improvements of existing ones
Should have good situational awareness and be mentally alert with a good capacity for evaluation, analysis and problem solving
Must have the ability to focus, develop plans, cope with stress, use judgment to accomplish results, and good interpersonal skills
Physical; Walking, sitting and standing
Ability to work with computers, databases, and integration of information tracking systems. Fluent in Spanish and English, both orally and writing
General knowledge of Quality regulations and standards affecting chemical, biological and medical devices (i.e. Quality Systems and FDA regulations) is desirable
Position requires knowledge on local, state, and OSHA and EPA regulation. Also, general understanding of general industry safety and health standards (NIOSH, ANSI) is required
Incumbent shall displays knowledge on the design, requirement and use of equipment, facilities and/or process safety devices such as: relief valves, flame arresters, fusible links, Explosion relief panels, etc. and shows expertise in theories, principles and analytical judgment procedures for the performance evaluation of Environmental Control Systems
Display broad knowledge of related disciplines to perform an effective performance evaluation
The incumbent will apply principles and experiences to solve a variety of environmental, safety and health problems and recommend the optimal solutions considering government and/or state regulations insurance requirements
Needs to rapidly resolve problems under conditions, which may endanger health, equipment and property. Must constantly sell and persuade a positive attitude towards safety to all employees and members of management
Must be capable of assuring reliable operations in a safe environment through the assurance of proper training program, adequate inspections and fast response to emergency situations
Work is mostly performed in an industrial environment. Also, work may require flexible schedules at different shifts and extended work hours when performing EHS evaluations and training
Able to travel out of Puerto Rico, when necessary
Local, State and Federal Inspectors - escort all regulatory agency inspectors. Maintain in contact with Corporate / Division, EHS and Engineering Management (Corporate/Division), Puerto Rico Manufacturing Association, peers in the Pharmaceutical Industry, and contractors and consultants that perform work at PR
Daily interaction with managers, supervisors, manufacturing and project engineers and hourly personnel. Implement audits, define, establish, and follow-up environmental, safety, and health corrective and compliance activities. Provide EHS technical assistance and information to Client management, hourly personnel and contractors. Interact with others industrial hygienist and EHS professional. Interaction with SITE Medical Department and Industrial Hygiene personnel, Site Managers, Directors, Managers, and Supervisors
