Seasonal Biological Science Technician

Responsibilities

Assists higher-level specialists/technicians in conducting censuses and surveys
Following instructions and standardized procedures collects data on condition of forage, range, or streams
Assists higher-level specialists/technicians in the preparation of reports, plans, and guidelines
Uses standard statistical methods and procedures in performing routine and recurring testing of the field data collected
Enters and retrieves data from Geographic Information System (GIS) and/or other information management systems
Performs routine and recurring testing of collected samples
Records all data collected and provides preliminary assessment and classification of the information
Makes field observations of natural resource conditions
Assists in the preparation of reports, plans, and guidelines
Installs, operates, and maintains resource management equipment
Utilizes a variety of computer programs to compile, reduce, store, retrieve, analyze, and report data
Uses mechanical and chemical methods to control invasive plants
Evaluates observed conditions and problems and makes preliminary determinations on the cause of problems noted
Provides logistical support and area orientation for contract or cooperating
Installs, operates, and maintains resource management equipment and inventories equipment
Evaluates quality assurance compliance and calibrates equipment as necessary
Maintains and organizes computer databases
Organizes, schedules, and executes a wide variety of established natural resource management projects
Plans field projects, independently choosing from among several possible courses of action at different stages of each project
Prepares draft project reports which include literature research, descriptions of methods, preliminary data analysis, graphs and charts, results, and recommendations for planning
Provides advice, assistance, and training to students, student conservation assistants, and volunteers

Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
Incident Driving: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards
Minimum Age: Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience
To qualify for GS-04: At least 6 months general experience AND 6 months of specialized experience for a total of 1 year of experience
To qualify for GS-05: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level
To qualify for GS-06: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level
To qualify for GS-07: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level

Housing: Maybe available only at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
