Responsibilities
Research and interpret VAT/GST laws and regulations, including reporting and remittance requirements, to keep Avalara tax automation products in compliance with international tax laws
Enhance existing tax engine content by converting VAT law into both human readable explanations and machine-readable formats using the latest AI-enabled proprietary technology
Conduct unit tests to validate the results of transactions before deployment
Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to implement solutions
Thoroughly document research findings, providing comprehensive summaries and legal citations
Identify opportunities for process automation, tooling optimization, and reducing redundancy to enhance efficiency
You will use AI copilots and assistants to improve research efficiency, testing, and documentation
Upskill in AI-related technologies applicable to daily work
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in law, accounting, finance, or economics and a minimum of 8 years experience in VAT/GST advisory or consulting roles
Master's degree (or equivalent) in law, accounting, finance, or economics and a minimum of 6 years experience in VAT/GST advisory or consulting roles; or
PhD in law, accounting, finance, or economics and a minimum of 3 years experience in VAT/GST advisory or consulting roles
5+ years experience in Indirect Tax or Consulting
Excellent legal research skills, including a logical, creative, and detailed approach to drilling down to specific data to surface information that is important to the accuracy of the published content
