Program Coordinator

The Houston-Galveston Area Council is one of the largest regional planning commissions in the country, and they are seeking a Program Coordinator – Professional Development to join their Workforce Solutions team. This role involves supporting the planning and implementation of training initiatives for workforce staff and ensuring the professional development of service providers in alignment with Board expectations.

Responsibilities

Serve as a key member of the Professional Development Team, supporting the planning, coordination, and implementation of training initiatives for Workforce Solutions staff and contracted service providers
Work closely with Senior Planners, program leadership, and regional partners to carry out Board-approved training plans and support professional development across the system
Serve as a liaison between the Board’s Professional Development Team and the Training Specialists employed by contracted service providers
Facilitate foundational and specialized trainings, focusing on supporting, guiding, and strengthening provider-led professional development efforts
Deliver select instructor-led and virtual trainings, coordinate logistics and communication for professional development activities, and provide technical assistance to staff in the field
Monitor alignment with PD and training guidelines, identifying gaps and strengths, and supporting continuous improvement efforts
Support content development by contributing to job aids, facilitator guides, and training materials aligned with adult learning principles

Required

2–4 years of experience in training coordination, facilitation, workforce development, or a related field
Experience delivering or supporting instructor-led or virtual training sessions
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences
Ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate projects, and meet deadlines
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and collaboration tools; experience with SharePoint or LMS platforms a plus
Bachelor's degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study
3 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school or in job related duties

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, Human Resources, Communication, or closely related business field
2–4 years of relevant experience working in workforce development, government, nonprofit, or training environments
Experience facilitating or supporting professional development of staff training initiatives
Familiarity with adult learning principles and training methodologies
Training or facilitation certifications (may be obtained within one year of employment)
Experience working with multiple stakeholders or regional partners
A critical thinker with problem-solving skills
