Research Assistant I - GU Radiation Oncology - Research

The Research Assistant 1 position supports the GU Radiation Oncology Division by contributing to preclinical research activities, maintaining mouse colonies, conducting experiments, and ensuring laboratory compliance and accuracy.

Responsibilities

Manage and organize mouse colonies, including husbandry and genotyping
Perform injections, imaging procedures including CT and bioluminescence, and X-ray irradiation
Monitor animal health and ensure appropriate application of protocols and SOPs
Collect tissues including tumors, organs, and blood from various mouse models
Maintain laboratory equipment and prepare common stock chemicals
Monitor and update supply inventory and ensure reagent quality
Support daily lab workflow to maintain readiness for research activities
Implement safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE
Maintain a clean and orderly workspace
Apply good laboratory practices and follow biohazard and chemical safety practices
Perform cell culture, cell treatment, and assays measuring cell death, growth, and drug response
Isolate and quantify protein, RNA, and DNA
Conduct Western blots, PCR, RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, and transfection
Collect, process, store, and record mouse tissue samples for research
Record and evaluate data according to required methods
Maintain laboratory notebooks, records, and databases
Communicate courteously with team members and transfer knowledge within the group
Review scientific literature and discuss new techniques with the supervisor
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's Degree Basic Science

Preferred

Experience with laboratory animals
Experience with research lab activities
Must be willing to work with mice
Strong interest in learning new scientific and technical skills
