Responsibilities
Develop fuel processing strategies (e.g., natural gas reforming, hydrogen utilization, syngas integration)
Design oxidant supply systems and manage air flow for optimal cathode performance
Ensure chemical compatibility of fuels, oxidants, and stack materials
Optimize fuel utilization rates to balance efficiency and durability
Perform energy and mass balance calculations for SOFC systems
Model electrochemical reactions and predict performance under varying operating conditions
Simulate thermal management to prevent hotspots and ensure uniform temperature distribution
Evaluate system efficiency and propose improvements
Integrate SOFC stacks with balance-of-plant (BoP) components (heat exchangers, compressors, reformers)
Design gas flow paths, manifolds, and piping systems for optimal distribution
Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure system-level compatibility
Support hybrid systems (SOFC + gas turbine, SOFC + battery storage)
Conduct system-level performance tests (efficiency, emissions, durability)
Validate chemical reaction pathways and identify degradation mechanisms (carbon deposition, sulfur poisoning)
Perform long-term reliability studies under real-world operating conditions
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
Preferred
Master Degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
