SPLOST - INTERN
NEOGOV is part of Henry County Government, and they are seeking an intern to provide a comprehensive understanding of the plan review process and governmental procedures in Civil Engineering. The intern will develop practical skills in reviewing engineering plans and gain insights into government-funded programs like SPLOST and TSPLOST while learning to address and mitigate potential issues in construction projects.

Responsibilities
Identify potential issues in the planning stages and propose solutions to mitigate problems before and after the construction phase
Develop a detailed plan review checklist and governmental assessment sheet to organize and improve the review process for engineering plans
Interact with professionals in government and consulting roles to gain insights into career paths and industry standards
Document the step-by-step plan review process used by the County and other municipalities
Gain knowledge of SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) and TSPLOST (Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) programs, including their objectives, funding mechanisms, and their impact on Civil engineering projects
Review engineering plans and assess them against the developed checklist and assessment sheet created
Develop an understanding of the procedures and workflow of local government and county engineering projects
Participate in meetings, workshops, and field visits to broaden your understanding of the engineering and governmental landscape
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled in Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license
Knowledge of how the environment affects project planning and execution
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Completed relevant coursework in foundational civil engineering classes
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction
Ability to work independently
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs
Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job
Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing
Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner
Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers
Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters
