Computer Consultant II
Syracuse University is seeking a Computer Consultant II to provide comprehensive IT support for their assigned department or college. This role is critical to ongoing operations by delivering elevated computer and application support, focusing on in-person assistance and collaboration with team members.
Responsibilities
This position has an emphasis on “in-person” support. The majority of time is spent on campus assisting with direct client and classroom support. Strong collaboration with team members is essential to coordinate efforts, share knowledge, and provide consistent, high-quality service to our clients
Use computing concepts, documented procedures, and knowledge of SU’s systems to address a wide variety of IT support requests, including but not limited to general hardware and software break/fix and hardware and software installation
Effectively prioritize incoming support tickets, coordinate and schedule with users, and provide cross-unit support as requested by supervisor
Manage hardware inventory of assigned area, plan upgrade lifecycle, and work with units to replace aging equipment as necessary
Maintain a familiarity with department’s specific needs, applications, and hardware configurations
Interface with vendors and other 3rd parties to provide technical support and ensure systems are adhering to University policy
Work with assigned department leads to ensure business goals are aligned with technical processes. Identify opportunities to improve business processes through technical means
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Three (3+) plus years relevant experience in information technologies/computer science as necessary
Driver's License and a vehicle are required for this position
Specialized knowledge includes understanding of IT hardware; Windows 11 and Mac deployment; PowerShell scripting; virtualization and security fundamentals; software and operating system interactions; networking; printer and printing capabilities; cellular technologies for client device support; and mobile computing platforms

Able to lift 35 pounds waist high, 20 pounds shoulder high, 15 pounds above head
Must be able to carry weight 15ft, with pushing, pulling and holding weight
Wrist and finger dexterity sufficient to use and operate a variety of hand tools and manipulate small objects
Ability to see, hear/listen, touch and speak is essential to work
Work requires reading, writing, analyzing data, problem solving, and conducting research on a daily basis
Work environment involves 80% indoor and 20% outdoor
