Health Technician/OR Device Coordinator

Responsibilities

Acts as the technical expert for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all specialized surgical equipment and instruments
Collaborates with vendors, surgeons, OR educators, and management to evaluate and implement new surgical products and technologies
Leads the annual inventory audit (EIL) of all OR equipment and computer systems to ensure accuracy and accountability. Oversees quality assurance for all OR equipment-including cameras, scopes, lasers, tables, towers, and monitors-initiating timely work orders for repairs as needed
Maintains clear and consistent communication with OR staff regarding the status of equipment repairs through email updates and communication boards
Serves as the primary coordinator for all equipment repair work orders, liaising with Facilities Management Services (FMS), Biomedical Engineering, and OI&T teams
Delivers yearly in-service training sessions to staff and physicians on the proper use and care of medical equipment
Partners with management to identify educational needs and coordinate training on newly acquired equipment and instrumentation
Develops, reviews, and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance and operational efficiency within the OR
Manages the proper use, maintenance, and readiness of Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) systems
Monitors all essential equipment to ensure compliance with mandated Biomedical Engineering inspections and verifies that all equipment stickers are current
Maintains medical gas supplies in the tank room, proactively coordinating timely replacement of tanks to avoid shortages
Arranges for yearly inspection of wearable lead protective equipment
Completes routine Environment of Care audits to systematically evaluate the OR environment to ensure it meets established safety, cleanliness, and regulatory standards. The audit will involve direct observation, visual assessment, and the use of checklists or standardized tools to verify that cleaning procedures, equipment maintenance, and facility conditions align with best practices and institutional policies. Work orders will be placed to aid in resolving open action items

GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position
Specialized Experience (for positions at: GS-4 and above) Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists
Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position
One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7
Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9
One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study
Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended
