Procurement Buyer
Astrix is a well-established specialty chemical manufacturer operating in a regulated FDA/cGMP environment, and they are seeking a Buyer to join their supply chain team. This role supports manufacturing operations while collaborating with various departments to ensure timely procurement of materials and cost savings.
Responsibilities
Procure raw materials and packaging components to support daily plant operations using ERP/MRP systems (Ross/Aptean)
Create and manage purchase orders, ensuring timely delivery aligned with production schedules
Monitor inventory levels and support a just-in-time purchasing strategy
Review purchase requisitions, clarify requirements, and recommend alternatives when needed
Negotiate pricing, discounts, and contract terms to support cost-reduction goals
Identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers based on cost, quality, service, and reliability
Lead sourcing initiatives to reduce spend and mitigate supply chain risk
Negotiate and manage supplier agreements and category contracts
Track vendor performance, pricing history, and issue resolution
Track commodity market trends (fiberboard, resin, steel, etc.) impacting packaging costs
Maintain master data for packaging components and communicate cost changes internally
Support the design and sourcing of packaging solutions (drums, liners, cartons, super sacks)
Lead annual RFQs and contribute to company-wide cost-savings initiatives
Participate in weekly production planning meetings to align purchasing with demand
Partner closely with Production, Quality, Accounting, and Sales to ensure smooth material flow
Assist with receiving procedures and resolve discrepancies with suppliers
Analyze purchasing data and trends to support forecasting and decision-making
Prepare summaries and presentations for leadership when needed
Maintain accurate and organized purchasing documentation
Qualification
Required
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Purchasing, or related field
3+ years of purchasing or procurement experience using ERP/MRP systems
Strong analytical and negotiation skills
Excellent written and verbal communication
High attention to detail and organizational accuracy
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams
Preferred
Manufacturing environment experience strongly preferred (food, pharma, chemical, or regulated industries)
Purchasing or supply chain certification (CPSM or similar) is a plus
