Public Relations Coordinator
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Phoenix is a nonprofit organization that focuses on community support and storytelling. Responsibilities
Pitch and submit releases, stories and calendar items to outlets for both English and Spanish markets
Host news crews and reporters visiting SVdP for stories
Assist in staff preparation for interviews
Support with news media drives, specifically helping with planned news segments, phone banks, and live shots
Collaborate with agency partners on outreach and interviews
Contribute to posting of news releases on SVdP’s online announcements
Maintain article clippings and broadcast records
Help with stories and submissions for established periodical placements
Update and maintain news media contact list
Monitor media for newsworthy items and angles related to the organization
Support storytelling as a key writer and contributor to the blog and newsletters with potential for stories to cross support for marketing campaigns and collateral
Must gather story ideas and interviews independently to create strong story drafts, especially looking for stories with potential interest for news media
Field story ideas from program staff
Pitch original story ideas, supporting and contributing to the marketing department’s content calendar
Edit teammates drafts and contribute to the overall clean, high-quality, and compelling nature of SVdP’s storytelling
Discover, gather, write copy, edit and take photographs and phone videos for posts, reels, stories and more across SVdP’s social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn
Contribute to and help maintain the social media content calendar, collaborating with PR and Marketing teammates to create a seamless voice and synchronized promotion of monthly messaging and campaigns
Keep up-to-date SVdP social profiles look and information
Lead in the collection and compiling of reports on social media data and insights to inform a data-driven strategy to SVdP’s social media
Daily monitor social conversation for trends, engagement and reputation management
Assist in select fundraising and media events throughout the year with an understanding that early mornings, late nights and holiday coverage is possible
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, creative writing, English, marketing or related field
2+ years minimum years experience
Experience writing long and short form stories for publication
Experience writing press releases, advisories, and media pitches
Experience with social media content creation
Eagerness to work with news media and form professional relationships with reporters
Strong critical thinking and ability to piece together stories and ideas in powerful ways
Specializes in condensing/recrafting stories. Ability to focus messages and calls to action
Strong writing, editing, interviewing and people skills
Passion for social media and proficiency with major social media platforms and social media management tools
Photography
Creative, positive and forward thinking
Extremely organized. Must balance multiple community perspectives and department requests
Practices excellent time management
Flexible team player
Able to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach and lift up to 30 pounds are required for this position
Preferred
Skill in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premier Pro), Canva, or equivalent digital media editing tools preferred but not required
