Responsibilities

Act as the subject matter expert for electrical engineering within a federal technical program office, providing guidance on the planning, design, integration, and evaluation of electrical and power systems
Analyze and define electrical system requirements to support field-deployed technologies such as surveillance towers, remote sensors, communications nodes, and mobile command units
Design and assess low-voltage and power distribution systems, including primary service, backup power, grounding, lighting, and protection systems
Assess backup power requirements, including generator sizing, solar integration, hybrid solutions, and energy storage considerations in austere environments
Review and provide technical input on engineering design packages, electrical system specifications, and cost estimates; ensure compliance with applicable codes and DHS standards
Support the assessment, adaptation, and field validation of emerging technologies requiring specialized electrical support, including autonomous surveillance systems, rapidly deployable sensors, and integrated energy solutions
Coordinate with civil, mechanical, and communications engineers, facility managers, and program stakeholders to ensure integrated system designs and successful project execution
Provide engineering insight for value engineering analyses, technical risk assessments, and cost-benefit studies
Travel to project sites to conduct field assessments, support design reviews, inspect installation work, and participate in Integrated Project Teams (IPTs)

Required

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's degree is a plus
8+ years of relevant experience in electrical engineering with emphasis on infrastructure systems, power distribution, or applied mission systems
Ability to interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and performance requirements
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint)
Strong technical writing, communication, and coordination skills
Ability to travel up to 40% to support site visits and program reviews
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a DHS/CBP Background Investigation (BI) is required; active CBP BI preferred

Preferred

Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred
Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and other applicable electrical and construction codes and standards
Experience working with federal agencies (e.g., DHS, DoD) or on mission-driven technology programs is strongly preferred
A current Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in Training (EIT) certification
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or other industry-related certification
