Criminal Defense Paralegal

Wannamaker Crimmigration is a mission-driven firm focused on protecting immigrant communities. They are seeking a detail-oriented Criminal Defense Paralegal to support their Immigration & Criminal Law Division by conducting legal research, managing case files, and providing courtroom support.

Law Practice

Responsibilities

Conduct in-depth legal research using tools such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, and similar databases to support criminal defense and crimmigration cases
Draft affidavits, motions, briefs, and other legal documents with precision and attention to detail
Compile, organize, review, and summarize case files, discovery, and evidence to assist attorneys in developing strong defense strategies
Manage case calendars, schedule hearings, track critical deadlines, and ensure timely and accurate filings
Provide administrative and logistical support during trial preparation, including attending court hearings as required
Prepare and submit vouchers for federal and state court-appointed cases for court approval
Maintain consistent communication with clients, witnesses, and court personnel to facilitate information flow and case progress
Uphold strict confidentiality and ethical standards in all client and case matters
Perform additional duties as assigned and collaborate closely with attorneys and legal staff to support the firm’s success

Required

Associate's degree or Paralegal Certificate required
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Criminal Defense Paralegal
Strong understanding of Texas criminal law and legal procedures
Proficiency in legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis, etc.)
Experience with case management and calendaring systems
Exceptional drafting, proofreading, and document review skills
Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize complex legal information
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple cases under tight deadlines
High level of professionalism, empathy, and discretion with clients
Advanced proficiency in MS Office and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Word, Excel)
Adaptability and calmness in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
