Senior Development Manager
root/edge is a leading renewable energy developer seeking a Senior Development Manager to oversee the execution and advancement of wind power generation projects across North America. This role involves guiding project development from concept through major milestones and ensuring successful project outcomes through cross-functional coordination.
Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a team of developers to ensure continuous progress across an active portfolio of wind development projects
Prepare and deliver regular project status updates, including risk assessments, budget tracking, schedule impacts, and major decision points
Forecast development challenges, identify mitigation strategies, and communicate upcoming decisions to leadership
Facilitate internal approval processes and provide subject‑matter expertise for major project recommendations
Participate in partnership meetings and collaborate frequently with internal stakeholders
Coordinate approvals across development, engineering, resource assessment, construction, legal, sales, service, and finance teams
Work closely with engineering and consultants to evaluate site layouts, wind resource constraints, technology choices, schedules, and interconnection studies
Lead or support land acquisition efforts: identify landowners, initiate outreach, and negotiate agreements including leases, purchase agreements, easements, and rights‑of‑way
Maintain ongoing communication with existing landowners via updates, meetings, and presentations
Track progress of land agents and coordinate contract requests with internal and external counsel
Manage and negotiate with external stakeholders including contractors, community representatives, permitting agencies, utilities, and regulatory entities
Oversee environmental, engineering, aviation, and biological consultants, including contracting and performance review
Negotiate key project agreements such as road use agreements, conditional use permits, and tax incentives
Support contracting for pre‑construction activities such as geotechnical and preliminary engineering work
Conduct real estate due diligence and risk assessments for acquisition and investment opportunities
Provide insights on market trends, policy developments, and emerging technologies to support strategic planning
Support business development initiatives including greenfield development, acquisitions, joint ventures, and asset sales
Participate in buy‑side and sell‑side diligence processes, evaluating developer capabilities and project‑level risks
Collaborate with Finance and Legal teams on interactions with capital providers, including tax equity and project financing partners
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field
9+ years of experience in project development, energy infrastructure, or related fields
In‑depth understanding of permitting, land acquisition, interconnection, engineering, EPC, project financing, commercial markets, and power sales
Strong understanding of North American energy markets, regulatory landscapes, stakeholder dynamics, and competitive environments
Experience leading projects to major milestones including financial close, Notice to Proceed (NTP), and Commercial Operation Date (COD)
Sophisticated understanding of environmental, permitting, and interconnection processes
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams and external stakeholders
Skilled negotiator with strong problem‑solving capabilities and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑moving environment
Familiarity with project structuring, tax considerations, and financial modeling concepts
Willingness to travel 30–45% within the U.S. and Canada
Preferred
MBA or relevant master's degree
Supervisory experience
Extensive experience in renewable energy development with a strong focus on wind power generation
