Responsibilities

Receive initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed; performs recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions including troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions
Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data
Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed such as: Constructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment
Gather and maintains specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; performs computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plots data and draws simple curves and graphs
Perform simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operates and adjusts simple test equipment; records test data
Rely on your experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and you will typically report to a supervisor in a safe work environment

Required

The ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance
US Citizenship
A High School Diploma or equivalent
5 years experience in electrical work in a related field or relevant/similar experience
5 years of Shipboard experience or relevant/similar experience
Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance post-employment
Ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening
Ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification
Ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout the work shift
Experience managing a crew of 6-10 team members of various trades
A combination of experience in the following areas: Competency attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors, Read drawings (Tradesman level), QCI instruct of lower techs, Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CP, Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts, Multipin competent, Elec testing reqs, i.e. ground checks, RSPT testing, Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge, Reading drawings (Apprentice level), Band/pack MCTs/RISE, Layout & mount small equipment as needed, Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter, Safety: Actively participates in safety surveillances & walk-thrus
Familiarity with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation
Ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position
Attention to safety, which is critical
Ability and willing to travel up to 10% to various work sites
Ability to work on-site in Chesapeake, VA and travel to Newport News, VA

Preferred

An active or current DoD Secret clearance
An OSHA Certification
A Multipin Connector certification
Fiber Optic certifications
