Responsibilities

Lead the end-to-end mechanical design of components, subassemblies, and systems using 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings
Apply DFM, DFA, and DFX principles to simplify assemblies, reduce part count, improve manufacturability, and lower cost
Own tolerance analysis, GD&T application, and critical interface definitions to ensure fit, form, and function
Select materials and manufacturing processes suitable for performance, cost, and scalability (machining, sheet metal, injection molding, die casting, additive manufacturing)
Collaborate with electrical, controls, and systems engineers to ensure seamless electromechanical integration
Create, review, and maintain BOMs, drawings, and engineering documentation within PLM/PDM systems
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on design best practices and standards
Lead prototype builds and support design verification and validation testing
Perform or review mechanical analyses (stress, thermal, vibration) using FEA or equivalent tools
Initiate, evaluate, and manage ECRs/ECOs, including impact analysis on cost, schedule, tooling, inventory, quality, and supply chain
Ensure design changes are properly reviewed, approved, documented, and released in accordance with configuration management processes
Participate in and lead design reviews, FMEA, root cause analysis, and corrective action initiatives
Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers to incorporate DFM/DFA feedback and drive continuous improvement
Lead design transfer activities to manufacturing, supporting pilot builds and production ramp-up
Support tooling, fixture, and assembly process development
Provide hands-on support during pilot and early production builds, troubleshooting fit, tolerance, and assembly issues
Drive cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives through controlled design changes

Required

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or related field
5+ years of experience in mechanical design and product development
Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or Inventor
Strong working knowledge of ECR/ECO processes, configuration management, and change control in a production environment
Proven experience assessing and implementing engineering changes with cross-functional approval
Deep understanding of DFM, DFA, DFX, and GD&T principles
Experience with manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal, injection molding, and casting
Ability to generate and maintain accurate 2D drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation
Proficiency with Microsoft office
Strong organizational, analytical, detail-oriented and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong attention to detail and disciplined approach to change management
Clear, effective communicator across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams
Self-driven, organized, and capable of managing multiple ECRs in parallel
Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and product excellence
Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S

Preferred

Industry experience in HVAC, automotive, medical devices, electromechanical systems, or thermal/mechanical products
Familiarity with PLM/PDM platforms (SolidWorks PDM, Teamcenter, Windchill, or equivalent)
Experience working directly with suppliers and contract manufacturers on design changes and production issues
Hands-on experience with prototype fabrication, testing, and failure analysis
Exposure to sustainability-driven DFX (design for serviceability, recyclability, lifecycle cost)
