Junior Staff Accountant

Central Valley Opportunity Center is seeking a Junior Staff Accountant to work closely with the Controller and Chief Fiscal Officer. This role involves managing accounts payable functions, maintaining financial records, and assisting in financial reporting and audits.

Responsibilities

Manage the full-cycle Accounts Payable process, implementation of accounting procedures, and oversee Accounts Receivable, including billing and collections
Serve as the primary reviewer for payroll data prior to final submission; ensure accurate documentation, labor allocation, and initial verification of hours
Utilize accounting software (e.g., Financial Edge NXT) to prepare and enter journal entries required for monthly Corporate Financial Statements
Assist the CFO in maintaining control of all fiscal activities through accurate documentation, thorough follow-through, and audit-ready record keeping
Prepare various accounting and governmental reports and preliminary financial statements for review by the Chief Fiscal Officer
Oversee the corporate credit card program, including receipt collection, expense coding, and reconciling monthly statements to ensure policy compliance
Manage and reconcile petty cash funds, ensuring all disbursements are properly documented, authorized, and replenished in a timely manner
Perform regular bank and ledger reconciliations to ensure data accuracy and support the monthly closing process
Assist in preparing schedules and gathering documentation for internal and external audits
Maintain organized filing systems and perform other administrative duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; or a minimum of two years of college accounting background combined with relevant work experience
Two to three years of progressive accounting experience, specifically in AP and general ledger maintenance
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced) and experience with accounting software
Demonstrated ability to analyze fiscal data, identify discrepancies, and prepare recommendations for management
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision while handling heavy workload pressures

Preferred

Familiarity with accounting procedures for State & Federally funded programs desired
