Lead Engineer
Coastal Protection Solutions is a Harvard-born climate technology company focused on commercializing The Wavebreaker™, a system designed to reduce storm waves and protect coastal communities. The Lead Engineer will drive the technical development, validation, and deployment of The Wavebreaker™ system, working closely with the CEO and research partners to tackle complex challenges in marine engineering and energy generation.

Responsibilities
Engineer and optimize The Wavebreaker™ modular floating wave attenuation system
Develop structural designs for marine environments including mooring systems and deployment hardware
Conduct computational simulations and structural analysis to optimize wave energy reduction
Design and oversee wave tank experiments and pilot deployments
Develop sensor integration and monitoring systems for real-time wave, weather, and structural health monitoring
Support future energy generation integration including power takeoff systems
Execute experimental validation programs with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
Analyze wave tank and field deployment data to iterate on design improvements
Prepare technical documentation for regulatory approvals
Transition designs from prototype to production-ready systems
Develop manufacturing specifications, bills of materials, and assembly procedures
Lead pilot deployment planning including site assessment and installation procedures
Monitor deployed systems and gather performance data
Qualification
Required
Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
5+ years hands-on engineering experience (marine systems, renewable energy, or coastal infrastructure preferred)
Experience with physical prototyping, testing, and iterative product development
Strong fundamentals in fluid mechanics, structural analysis, and mechanical design
Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and analysis tools (Ansys Fluent, FEA, MATLAB)
Hands-on fabrication skills and comfort in marine environments
Excellent problem-solving and project management abilities
Entrepreneurial mindset
Preferred
Experience with wave energy converters, floating platforms, or offshore structures
Background in renewable energy systems design
Familiarity with marine regulatory frameworks
Academic research or national laboratory experience
Previous startup experience
Experience with sensor networks and data acquisition systems
Knowledge of coastal engineering principles
