Project Engineer – Mechanical

CAMS is seeking a Project Engineer – Mechanical to serve as the Owner’s technical authority for mechanical systems associated with power generation and energy infrastructure projects. This role ensures engineering quality, constructability, and technical compliance for mechanical scopes executed by EPC contractors while managing mechanical risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Review EPC mechanical engineering deliverables for compliance with scope, specifications, codes, and standards (ASME, API, ASTM, applicable OEM requirements)
Provide technical oversight for mechanical systems, including piping, pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, valves, and balance-of-plant systems
Evaluate constructability, access, maintainability, and installation sequencing of mechanical designs
Ensure mechanical designs align with operational, maintenance, and reliability expectations of the facility
Interface with the Project Construction Manager and Field Implementation Managers to resolve mechanical installation issues and field challenges
Support inspections, pressure testing, alignment, and mechanical completion activities
Assist with commissioning readiness, startup planning, and system turnover from a mechanical perspective
Support resolution of RFIs, technical clarifications, and field-initiated design modifications
Identify mechanical technical risks and develop mitigation strategies
Support evaluation of mechanical scope changes, design deviations, and associated cost/schedule impacts
Ensure adherence to CAMS mechanical engineering standards and governance requirements
Support claims avoidance through disciplined technical documentation and timely issue resolution

Required

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
5–10 years of experience supporting mechanical engineering and construction on industrial or power generation projects
Experience working with EPC contractors and operating facilities
Strong understanding of mechanical design standards, materials, and construction interfaces
Ability to work effectively in field-based environments
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills

Preferred

Experience with power plant balance-of-plant systems, environmental control equipment, or major mechanical retrofits
Experience supporting outages, equipment replacements, and system tie-ins
Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure
Familiarity with outage planning, commissioning support, and startup activities
