Project Engineer – Electrical

CAMS is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to serve as the owner’s technical authority for electrical systems associated with power generation and energy infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for ensuring the technical integrity, constructability, safety, and regulatory compliance of all electrical engineering elements executed by EPC contractors.

Responsibilities

Review EPC electrical deliverables for compliance with project scope, specifications, codes, and industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NFPA, NESC, applicable utility requirements)
Provide technical oversight for medium- and low-voltage systems, power distribution, motor control centers (MCCs), switchgear, transformers, grounding, protection, and control systems
Evaluate constructability, installation sequencing, and maintainability of electrical designs
Ensure electrical designs align with plant operational philosophies and reliability requirements
Interface with the Project Construction Manager and Field Implementation Managers to resolve electrical field issues and installation challenges
Support electrical inspections, testing, energization planning, and commissioning readiness
Participate in factory acceptance tests (FATs), site acceptance tests (SATs), and system turnover activities as required
Assist with the resolution of RFIs, technical clarifications, and field-driven design changes
Identify electrical technical risks and develop mitigation strategies
Support evaluation of electrical scope changes, design deviations, and associated cost/schedule impacts
Ensure compliance with CAMS electrical standards, safety expectations, and engineering governance practices
Support claims avoidance through timely technical decision-making and documentation

Required

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
5–10 years of experience supporting electrical engineering and construction on industrial or power generation projects
Experience working with EPC contractors and operating power facilities
Strong working knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and construction practices
Ability to interface effectively with construction, commissioning, and operations teams
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills

Preferred

Experience with power plant electrical systems, substations, switchyards, or major retrofits
Experience supporting outages, cutovers, and electrical tie-in planning
Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure
Familiarity with environmental control systems, balance-of-plant, or compliance-driven retrofit projects
