Laboratory Developed Testing Technician I

The LDT Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing standard laboratory procedures, analyzing data, and assisting with research and development while maintaining high quality levels in test processes and results.

Responsibilities
Perform laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses according to the laboratory’s standard operating procedures which may include, but are not limited to
Prepare samples for PCR, Sanger sequencing, or other testing methodologies
Order, prepare, maintain DNA oligo primers
Analysis and scoring of sequence results
Maintain validation records and related databases
Ability to investigate validation discrepancies
Contribute to active SOP maintenance
Perform research and development of new tests and clinical assays
Develop Sanger assays of lower complexity (no significant paralogy or conversion)
Develop genetic assays using other established testing platforms
Assist with NGS verifications and validations
Contribute to workflow efficiency gains exercises and assist with troubleshooting assays
Meet productivity and TAT expectations
Maintain a high level of quality in test processes and results
Ability to identify problems, notify supervisors and describe circumstance or contributing factors
Achieves and maintains competency on required laboratory tasks
Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment and safety requirements
Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures
Understand the various laboratory equipment and reagents used within assigned department
Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment; including centrifuges, thermal cyclers, vortexers and pipettes for extended periods of time
Receive and satisfactorily complete basic training on laboratory software and programs
Maintain a clean work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and colleagues by using appropriate interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a team environment

Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height
May perform repetitious actions using lab tools
Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range
May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation
Participate in continuing education and staff meetings. Responsible for own professional development
Qualification
Required
Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent laboratory training and experience as defined: 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination

Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation
Professional working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations
Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Computer skills include internet navigation and email usage
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution highly preferred
For degrees not in those listed above: 90 semester hours which must include 16 semester hours in chemistry (6 of which must be in inorganic chemistry); 16 semester hours in biology courses; and 3 semester hours of math
Experience in molecular testing
Strong grasp of molecular biology and genetics techniques and principles
